Spring Goals

What are your spring goals to pursue your career?

The Etta Israel shoot..actually the Union Bank Community Matters Spot is being edited now and looking fantastic. Los Angeles spot airs first. I cannot thank you actors who jumped in all on fours...wait..who jumped in and brought your heat and soul and kindness and generosity, you worked, you came prepared and some of you even drove to San Francisco for me and put yourself up. Wow, David Ury...just saying. I love actors who get that being on set for a director and crew regardless of the pay is the best networking in town don't you think?

My son shot a PSA about Autism on the 27th. The 3rd month of his dad's passing. I just now noticed that when I typed the date.There was a moment when Brandon Jameson, Director, gave him some direction. I was watching through the camera lenz with the little black camera skirt over my head with Brandon and what I saw was beautiful. I saw a beautiful boy who was sweet, likable and willing. When Richard Neil (actor who played his father) said "When my son was diagnosed with Autism at age 3...." and then he turned and looked and Tanner and Tanner responded so lovingly, with a nod and cute smile I had never seen but maybe once when he was little...and he took his arm and wrapped around Richard's neck (a complete stranger) and not only did that, but pulled him tight and patted his back as they exchange glances..."

I hope that part does not end up on the editing floor. It was like his dad was inside Richard, and Tanner responded to that love one more time....on the 3rd month of John's passing.

2012 is here!

Hello,
It's been a month since I have checked in. My son's father died and that really changed our lives. We are better today. Better enough for me to know that I need to pull out all 'stop gaps' and 'pull myself up from the bootstraps' and 'be the Phoenix that rises from the ashes' once again.
I hope to get some info out there to you regarding marketing yourself as an actor and also how easy is it to find you and know your talent, know you, and know your best qualities.

Cerritos College Speaker Night

I am so thrilled right now. What a great night. My long time friend Prof. Steven Hirohama invited me to speak to his young bright filmmakers. It was great. I love talking, we all know that. I was pleased as my powerpoint presentation was actually helpful, a big warm round of applause for George Bloom!

Here is the best part: My son ran the camera. For the very first time, I saw my son from the stage running my camera. I remember when he was born. I had this lofty open office and he would sit at 10 days old in his seat looking at the actor, then the monitor, the actor, then the monitor. Finally 17 years later, he is behind the camera. Now to see what he shot!!! I am sure you will see it when I do.

Great Day! Met Jason Ritter!

Well, it's Saturday and it's been a full day. I was up early to get to Actors Training in LA, Laurie Morella, Tabitha's mom's casting director showcase. Al was there, and he stayed about an hour after, as did I, shoot maybe more (sorry Laurie if you are reading this!). Watched great kids and met Guy Bee and told him I wanted to shadow him. I was serious. I wonder what else I can do that I would enjoy and I would make a killer cinematographer I think. Still, I asked. Oh, he has directed  many Supernatural episodes. Nice guy. I think I interested him in a bit of social media marketing and I heard you Guy say you had tried the webseries...call me. Let me sell it and get it back. I have a plan. Call me.

Before today, yesterday, I was with Jason Ritter and director Tonya S. Holly at The Georgian Hotel in Santa Monica. Lovely place. Jason is lovely. I excused myself an hour in. I could have stayed all day.

And before that....I had a casting session for the role of Clyde Barrow. This was a hand picked session based n reels I liked and pitches via emails that I had stuffed into a folder for when the time came. I set that session up in about 10 minutes. One mass email boom! Your client, so and so, has an appt with....

So it was sneaky. I am sorry for the private gathering but I had one day. There are 130 roles in the movies by the way, and no one is cast, officially.
Katie read, my favorite job, Jeremy, Lily's boyfriend, ran my camera. No one runs my camera. Oh yeah, I still need to compress those files and see how he did...back to the session. It was awesome.
Great actors came in like Ryan Merriman (who Katie runs into later that evening at her local hangout), Sean Brosnan, Jonathan Bennett, Sean Faris, Bobby Campo, and so many more. Well, remember I had them saved, so they were all great actors.

So, that is that. I am going to move on to learning PowerPoint.

Do your handlers use social media marketing for you?

As I was looking at reels for 'The Story of Bonnie and Clyde' director session next week, I added 'my favorite's' to my 'Favorites' Page on ThePamsWorld...channel, which is a live company casting resume for me basically. 
It was not easy. First of all the links the agent finally sent didn't work, had to get a few emails to get to the reel itself, and then I needed to figure out a way to get it on my you tube page (since I could not find either actor reels on you tube)
I was a good 20 minutes into it when the agent wrote back to me in BOLD and said,


"DO NOT PUT OUR ACTORS ON YOUR YOU TUBE PAGE!


What she doesn't know is that in social media marketing you ride a wave of another brand. In this case that would be me.


How is my business changing with it?


Firstly, if I want to see a 'reel' on an actor when I go to You Tube.


Maybe I want to pitch you while I am skyping with my client. Maybe someone hears your name as it's referred in a pinch by one of your 'social network friends' and that director can't pick up his iPhone or iPad and enter your name and say "Yes, he's fine".


I can save a week just by putting my favorite actors on one of my pages. This way I say to the director after a long day of pitches and emails and say go to my ThePamsWorld and see for yourself in your leisure. This is how I am pitching my company now.


Now, if I am using all of my social marketing skills on myself and branding myself, and directing traffic to my site...wouldn't you want to be there in my "Favorites"?


Personally, good idea. I need to jump on a brand myself....

I unplugged my phones. I am not only re-tooling my casting company's business plan, but investing a bunch of time into my social media marketing strategy. Yes. I said strategy. I am working on my monthly plan, my 6 month plan, and my 6 year plan. Radishes, Wheat and Trees...as my buddy George taught me.
